The CHDA understands the devastation that such a loss can mean and also recognizes that those losses might not be covered by normal homeowner’s insurance or Federal Emergency Management funds. The Colorado Horse Emergency Fund is set up to provide assistance to horse owners and their horses who have suffered losses as the result of a natural disaster, such as these two front range fires. Horse owners, horse organizations, and interested individuals around the State have responded overwhelmingly by contributing more than $30,000 to this fund. “I was very moved by the article in the Rocky Mountain News. Although I do not have horses, I have a deep love for animals. You are to be commended for your efforts during the fires – as well as throughout the year,” wrote one contributor. "The response to this fund has been astounding," commented Teresa Asbury of the Wells Fargo Bank in Parker. “Looking at some of the deposit amounts, we can tell that piggy banks were even being emptied to contribute to this fund!” The Colorado Horse Emergency Fund will provide financial relief in the areas of building materials, medical supplies/treatment, and feed. Individuals seeking assistance through the Colorado Horse Emergency Fund may apply to the CHDA by calling (303)292-4981. Each application will be given careful consideration and funded based upon need and monies available. The Colorado Horse Development Authority is a non-profit organization that was created by an Act of the State Legislature to ensure the strength of the State’s horse industry through research, education, and promotion. Funds for the Colorado Horse Emergency fund are provided by private contributions only. For more information about the Colorado Horse Development Authority and its activities, please contact the Colorado Horse Office at 303-292-4981 or visit us on the worldwide web at www.chda.org.
